Hangout Fest Day 2: You Think You Know.. But You Have NO Idea

so onto day two! as usual, my beach vacations start at the very early hour of at least 7am. my body knows just how close i am to sun, sand, salt and surf and promptly wakes me to to get my behind down to the beach. totally okay with that - so i hustled my hiney down to the beach and enjoyed my coffee (much needed) in the beach breeze.

Very fitting sand sculpture on the beach!

in not knowing what truely awaited us we headed out early to scope the scene. the first shuttle was supposed to start at about 11ish so we headed over. when the first shuttle finally arrived i think we almost wished it didn't. this shuttle HAD NO AIR CONDITIONING!! its was like hell on earth for a good 20 or so minutes. it was like a sick joke. for those who know me... sweating isn't my thing, yuck. i mean i can deal with it if i'm doing some type of phyical activity, but to be sitting down, not moving and sweating, you gotta be kidding me!! the one positive to this was when we were finally let out the 85degree temps with majority humidty felt pretty great!

so we headed to our next line of the day. {note: boy were we happy we got our braclets the day before because we heard that line was a slight disaster.} so we got in this line about noon-ish or so, not really knowing when they would be opening the gates but assuming it would be soon because the first act went on at 1:15. a lovely volunteer says they will open at one. we're okay with this. we make some "friends" in line - festifriends - and document megan's delightful outfit for day 1 [see the awesomeness below] and then 1 rolls around.. and 1:10, 1:20, 1:30 and FINALLLY gates open.

Epic Outfit Numero Uno - the tiedye makes it quite easy to locate a wondering Megan!

we get in and i feel like i'm at disney! overwhelmed with excitement and want to see everything. but really the music is most important. we head over to the hangout stage [read: big stage of the festival, headliners play there] to see kristy lee. she was pretty wonderful and i plan to add her to the itunes, quite enjoyable!

Hangout Stage!

from there we head over to the surf style stage [read: second biggest stage in the sand] to catch some brandi carlile who was also quite great, followed by briana v's choice band of the weekend - grace potter and the nocturnals.

SurfStyle Stage!

lemme tell ya - BEST FIND OF THE WEEKEND! a few things - they can rock, for real! grace potter is flippin HOT (i have a bit of a lady crush on her) and their music is GREAT. there were really were only a few acts i HAD to see throughout the weekend so i left the rest up to megan and briana v. and boy am i happy i did. they are currently on my ipod nonstop.

Grace Potter and the Nocturnals!!

Grace Potter - she is AMAZING!!

next up was my morning jacket. i had heard them before, but wasn't like a die hard fan. the crowds started to get pretty tight, but we were happy with our location - probably only about 20 feet from the stage. they had a great set, but we left a little early because pure exhaustion had set in. as we were walking out through the HUGE crown of people all i could think was, "holy crap i can't believe how close we were!"

My Morning Jacket - pretttty amazing, for sure a festi must!

that really set the standard for the next day... and this day, would be EPIC.

Oh Hangout... How I love you... Let me count the ways...

we didn't even head over to widespread panic before we departed for the shuttle but that was probably for the best, as our shuttle driver PASSED OUR STOP so we had to walk an extra mile. can you find megan in the photo below?? wonder what she was doing in the bushes on our walk home??

hey megan... whatcha doin' back there??!

after our first day we knew there were some necessities for hangout... below is the list stolen from megan's blog, with my two cents inserted (in bold) throughout...

After our first day, here are some of our Hangout essentials:
1. Nalgene bottle- even though when we first got there the water station water was HOT, it was necessary to have the bottle, because you could buy $3 water and put it in the bottle, so much easier to carry. agreed - it was also a great sheet holder
2. SHEET- I'm talking bed sheet you can put down and sit on. This saved space, and kept us close to the stage! we now have an OFFICIAL concert/festival sheet in which you will probably see though out pics. it was PERFECT - i suggest a blend of man-made fabric so the sand (or grass or where ever you put it) easily comes off. the sheet is also great for hiding snacks in and rolling it up as we found out the next day.
3. Cash- super important to make it easy to buy beer ($6 for a 16 oz Miller Light)
4. Sunscreen- burning will RUIN your experience. Reapply reapply reapply! My mom would be proud I made it through the first day unscathed!
5. Hat and sunglasses- it is bright on those white sand beaches! the hat is what i will remember for next time, mucho important!

hope you're ready for day 3 - i still get "giggly girl" excited when i think about it!

peace, love 'n grace potter!!
